Catering for the experienced dive market, Pro Dive Cairns own and operate two fully equipped dive charter vessels visiting Cairns' most easterly outer Great Barrier Reefs.
Our dive sites offer colorful corals combined with a huge abundance of marine life in very comfortable diving conditions. As the sites are at the edge of the very outer Great Barrier Reef the visibility is always clearer than sites fringing islands and patch reefs closer to the main land. Exclusive moorings on these reefs mean no other vessels visit the dive sites, ensuring our clients are able to enjoy spectacular, uncrowded, and unspoilt diving year round. An attractive purpose-built 25 metre dive vessel, SCUBAPRO boasts 14 twin and 2 double cabins, large open outside decks, and a comfortable and spacious air-conditioned saloon. Perfect for day trips, liveaboards and overnight trips, SCUBAPRO is also available for day and overnight diving or reef cruising charters for up to 40 guests. "Kalinda" is a 21 metre timber vessel which features a combination of twin and multishare cabins, she is a real favourite of the crew and is known for a real feeling of friendliness. If you are travelling alone sharing with other passengers from all around the world is a fantastic experience. She has two large deck areas, with the upper being a lovely spot to catch the North Queensland sunshine. The Great Barrier Reef is renowned as the eighth Wonder of the World and a declared World Heritage Site. It encompasses 350,000 square kilometres of the South Pacific Ocean, extends for 2000 kilometres and is made up of 2,900 individual reefs and 71 coral cays. |
Its ecosystem supports the greatest concentration of life on the planet including 1500 species of fish, 350 different kinds of coral, 4000 species of molluscs and 10,000 species of sponges. In the North Queensland region of the Reef, water temperatures range from 22 to 28 °C allowing comfortable diving all year round. The Ribbon Reefs extend southwards from Lizard Island and offer a variety of excellent diving and are famous for one site in particular - the Cod Hole. This special place is home to a group of giant potato Cod which can grow up to an average of 100 kilograms. These massive gentle giants are inquisitive species and will readily approach divers. Moray eels and Moari Wrasse also frequent the area, a real treat for any keen photographer. Further afield, the Coral Sea to the east of the Great Barrier Reef has crystal clear waters with spectacular diving. 3 Coral Sea reefs are accessible from Cairns, these being Osprey Reef, Bouganville Reef and Holmes Reef. These reefs are rarely visited by dive vessels and offer experienced divers the chance to see shark feeding action, large pelagics, drift diving and wall drop offs.
