Prior to diving, you will be asked to fill out a Medical Questionnaire to find out whether you should be examined by a doctor. The purpose of the questionnaire is determine if any pre-existing conditions may affect your safety while diving. Should you answer YES to any of the conditions listed on the Medical Questionnaire, you will be issued with a PADI Medical Statement to take to a physician for further assessment. This can be arranged by Pro Dive Cairns and the examination fee in Australia is $35, payable directly to the doctor. Australian Medical Standards are different to those overseas, and a medical obtained in another country will most likely not be valid in Australia. The Medical Questionnaire will be filled out on your arrival at Pro-Dive Cairns, and any subsequent examinations must comply to The Medical Questionnaire includes the following questions, however answering YES to any question will not necessarily disqualify you from diving, but will indicate the need for a medical assessment by a qualified physician that conforms Australian Medical Standard AS 4005-1, prior to diving. Could you be pregnant or are you attempting to become pregnant? Do you regularly take prescription or non-prescription medications? (With the exception of birth control) Are you over 40 years of age? Has it been more than 5 years since your last divers medical examination? Have you had any serious injury or illness since your last divers medical examination?
